Mariposa Integrative Therapy offers the page for FAQ Mariposa AI Therapy Assistant™ –powered by ChatGPT — guided by your therapist to support growth, reflection, and insight between sessions. Here are honest answers to common questions clients ask.
Understanding What It Is
1. What exactly is the ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is a conversational AI created by OpenAI. It can answer questions, help with reflection, suggest coping strategies, and assist in writing or clarifying thoughts. Think of it like a very smart, nonjudgmental journaling companion—not a therapist, not a person, and not conscious.
How It Fits into Therapy
2. Why would I use the Mariposa AI Therapy Assistant™ in therapy?
Some clients find it helpful between sessions to stay connected to what they’re working on. It can help you:
Reflect on experiences
Regulate overwhelming emotions
Rehearse difficult conversations
Explore patterns or inner Parts
Stay focused on your goals
You’re never required to use it, but it’s available if it serves you.
3. Does this mean you think AI can do what you do?
No. Therapy is a relationship. It’s attuned, emotional, embodied, and human. ChatGPT can’t replicate that. But it can sometimes help hold the space between sessions, especially when you’re processing something or need a gentle structure.
4. Will it change how we do therapy together?
Only if you want it to. I won’t assign ChatGPT homework unless you’re open to it. I see it as a possible enhancement—not a direction change.
How to Use It
5. Do I need to know anything technical to use the Mariposa AI Therapy Assistant™?
No. If you can text or email, you can use ChatGPT. I’ll guide you, and I can provide sample prompts or walkthroughs. You don’t need to install anything.
6. Will it remember what I tell it?
Not unless you have your own ChatGPT account with history turned on. It doesn’t remember you between sessions unless you choose to save conversations. You can delete anything at any time.
7. Is the Mariposa AI Therapy Assistant™ confidential?
I encourage you not to use real names, private addresses, or detailed identifying information. Think of it as a public tool—safe to use with thoughtful boundaries. If you ever feel unsure, ask me first.
What It Can Help With
8. What can I use it for specifically?
Practicing boundary language
Writing a letter you’ll never send
Journaling when your thoughts feel scrambled
Exploring conflicting parts of yourself
Reframing negative thoughts
Naming emotions you can’t quite identify
Asking, “What would Carolyn say to me right now?”
9. Can I show you what it said to me?
Yes! I’d love to see it if you want to share. It can be a bridge to deeper conversations in session.
10. Can I use it when I’m really upset or triggered?
Sometimes. It might help ground you, offer a calming exercise, or walk you through a breathing practice. But it isn’t a substitute for support during a true crisis. If you’re unsafe, reach out to me, call a hotline, or seek immediate help.
Ethical, Emotional, and Philosophical Concerns
11. Is this just a trend? Will this go away in a year?
It’s not going away—but how we use it matters. I’m offering this because I believe in integrating new tools thoughtfully, guided by human ethics, trauma sensitivity, and relational care. If it ever stops being useful, we’ll stop using it.
12. How do I know I can trust it?
That’s a wise question. ChatGPT is a tool, not a source of absolute truth. It’s usually helpful, but not always perfect. It can reflect back helpful perspectives—and I’m here to help you make sense of what resonates and what doesn’t.
13. Why do you, Carolyn, trust it?
I’ve been using it for myself and finding it surprisingly supportive. I see it as a way to extend the work of therapy beyond the room—especially when clients are struggling between sessions. It’s never a replacement for care. It’s one more way to care for yourself.
Limits and Boundaries
14. Can ChatGPT give me advice?
It can give suggestions, ideas, or help you think things through. But it’s not a replacement for therapy, legal, medical, or psychiatric advice. I’m always here to help you sort through what’s most helpful.
15. Could this make me more isolated?
That’s a valid concern. My goal is to support your growth in connection—not in isolation. If ChatGPT ever becomes something that makes you feel more alone or disconnected, we’ll talk about it and find what works better for you.
